What makes Atlas Dome Homes different?
Most homes are built as a collection of separate materials layered together over time — wood framing, insulation, roofing, finishes, and structural supports all performing independent roles.
Rather than accepting the limitations of conventional construction, Atlas Dome Homes engineered a more integrated approach to modern and efficient homebuilding
The Atlas system combines reinforced concrete, structural steel, continuous insulation, and dome engineering into one integrated structural shell. The engineering is so well orchestrated that each component strengthens the performance of the others, creating a home designed for exceptional durability, energy efficiency, and long-term comfort.
The reinforced concrete provides mass, stability, and resilience.
The steel framework provides alignment, reinforcement, and structural continuity.
The dome geometry distributes loads naturally and efficiently.
The continuous insulation system protects the entire structure from thermal loss and temperature extremes — from the foundation to the top of the dome.
But strength alone is not the purpose of an Atlas home.
Strength is what allows the home to become quieter, more stable, more energy efficient, and more comfortable to live in throughout every season.
The result is a home designed not only to last longer, but also to perform better — aiming to use fewer resources while creating a healthier, more comfortable living environment for generations.
Atlas Dome Homes was created from the belief that residential construction can be stronger, smarter, more efficient, and more enduring — without sacrificing comfort, beauty, or design freedom.
What is a reinforced concrete dome home?
Atlas Dome Homes uses an advanced engineered system of one or more 30' × 30' square modules with reinforced straight concrete walls that transition into a reinforced concrete dome. The system is designed to create stronger, more durable, energy-efficient homes with long-term comfort and design flexibility.
Unlike conventional wood-framed homes, reinforced concrete structures are designed to better resist fire, moisture, high winds, and structural deterioration over time.
Are Atlas Dome Homes tornado resistant?
Concrete dome structures are naturally stronger against extreme weather and natural disasters because curved surfaces help distribute wind pressure more evenly throughout the entire structure.
Although Atlas Dome Homes feature traditional-looking layouts with straight walls and conventional-style rooflines, the true strength of the structure comes from the reinforced concrete dome engineering integrated into the home itself.
This approach allows homeowners to enjoy the comfort and appearance of a traditional home while benefiting from the exceptional structural advantages associated with dome construction.
While no structure can be considered completely disaster-proof, reinforced concrete dome construction can provide a significantly higher level of protection compared with many conventional homes.
Are Atlas Dome Homes fire resistant?
Yes.
Reinforced concrete structures are naturally more resistant to fire than conventional wood-framed construction. Concrete does not ignite, warp, or burn like many traditional building materials, which can greatly reduce the spread of fire and improve the overall resilience of the structure during wildfire or accidental fire events.
At Atlas Dome Homes, we are also developing a new type of roof tile designed to surpass many of the qualities of natural slate — including a high degree of fire resistance — while being significantly lighter in weight.
While no structure can ever be considered completely fire-proof, our goal is to create homes designed for greater durability, safety, and long-term protection.
Can Atlas Dome Homes be customized?
Absolutely.
Every homeowner has different needs, lifestyles, and ideas. Atlas Dome Homes are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing for a wide variety of layouts, exterior styles, room configurations, finishes, and architectural concepts.
The 30' x 30' square modules we use are especially designer-friendly because they can adapt to anything from a simple, efficient starter home to a large luxury residence with extensive layout possibilities and configurations.
Our aim is to combine structural strength with design freedom, creating homes that are both practical and highly personalized.
How are Atlas Dome Homes different from other concrete home builders?
For more than 40 years, reinforced concrete dome homes have demonstrated exceptional structural durability in some of the harshest weather conditions across the United States. These structures have successfully withstood hurricanes, tornadoes, severe storms, fire, and other natural challenges that often destroy conventional buildings.
Atlas Dome Homes builds upon these well-established structural principles while introducing modern materials, improved insulation systems, and more practical interior and exterior finishing methods designed for contemporary living.
Like other reinforced concrete dome systems, Atlas homes use reinforced concrete walls and a reinforced concrete dome structure engineered for strength, durability, and long-term resilience. The difference lies in the way the structure is insulated, finished, and integrated into everyday modern construction methods.
Traditional concrete dome systems leave exposed concrete visible inside and outside the structure. Additional membranes, coverings, or earth berms are used to complete and weatherproof the building.
Atlas Dome Homes takes a different approach.
Our reinforced concrete walls are built using insulated concrete, similar to ICF forms, where the structural concrete is permanently enclosed within insulation layers on both the interior and exterior sides. This creates a structure that is not only exceptionally strong but also thermally efficient, easier to finish, and more comfortable for everyday living.
Our dome system also differs from many traditional methods. Instead of relying on large temporary molds, we use our specially engineered, patented curved-beam system, combined with structural wood between the beams, to form the reinforced concrete dome.
The curved beams and wood framing remain permanently in place, creating a warm and beautiful finished dome that becomes an integral part of the home’s structure and interior character.
Once the structural shell is completed, the home is already prepared for the next stages of construction. The reinforced concrete does not remain exposed throughout the living areas, allowing plumbers, electricians, and interior finish contractors to work far more efficiently without having to cut into hardened concrete surfaces later.
The dome itself is then protected externally with insulated aircrete and covered with a conventional-style framed roof system that can accommodate shingles, steel roofing, or future roof tile systems currently under development.
One of the major advantages of the Atlas approach is that homeowners can enjoy the structural strength associated with reinforced concrete dome engineering while still benefiting from the appearance and comfort of a more traditional home design.
Atlas Dome Homes is built around the idea of combining:
proven reinforced concrete dome engineering,
modern insulation systems,
practical construction methods,
based on decades of established structural performance,
energy efficiency,
long-term durability, and
modernizing a well-proven construction concept.
The goal is not simply to build a stronger structure, but to create homes that feel warm, practical, beautiful, energy efficient, and comfortable to live in every day.
In a 30' × 30' open concrete space, how are the rooms divided?
Interior layouts can vary greatly depending on the homeowner’s preferences.
Some designs use conventional framed interior walls, while others incorporate open-concept living areas with carefully planned room divisions to maximize light, space, and functionality.
How long does it take to build a two-module home?
Construction timelines depend on the design, site conditions, permits, weather, and level of customization.
In general, the structural shell can be completed relatively quickly compared with conventional concrete construction or lumber-frame buildings.
Interior finishing time varies from project to project.
Is there a payment plan during construction?
Yes.
Construction projects are normally completed in stages, with payments tied to specific phases of the work and overall project progress.
Because every home is customized, the planning process often begins long before construction starts. Initial phone consultations are always welcome and free of charge.
Once design development begins — including sketches, layout concepts, draftsmanship, 3D visualizations, or detailed planning work — a non-refundable design retainer may apply. This amount is credited toward the total project cost once construction moves forward.
This approach allows us to dedicate serious time and attention to each client’s project while developing ideas that are tailored to their property, lifestyle, and long-term goals.
Does Atlas Dome Homes provide financing?
Atlas Dome Homes does not directly provide financing.
However, we are happy to work with homeowners, banks, credit unions, and lending institutions during the planning and construction process. Financing approval is always subject to the lender’s requirements and final approval.
